Dissertation Office

Spring PhD Candidates:

Fifth Week: Ask your program administrator how much time the department chair needs to approve your dissertation. The chair should see the same files you upload to the ProQuest ETD Administrator. The departmental review process comes after your dissertation defense, after you have completed all changes requested by your committee, and after you have proofread and edited your dissertation. Make sure you will have enough time to meet your program requirements.

You will be submitting your dissertation online using the ProQuest ETD Administrator, a web-based submission system. By this point in the quarter, you should have completed the Publishing information section of the ETD Administrator and be working on the About my dissertation/thesis section.

  • Use headline style (upper and lower case) to enter your title so that it looks the way it will look in the convocation program.
  • Review your abstract. An abstract is required, and it should be no longer than 350-500 words.
  • Your degree date is June 2024.

The Dissertation Office provides information on the University's dissertation policies. We help doctoral students understand dissertation formatting and publication requirements, and we assist with the submission process. We support graduate program administrators as they manage dissertation submissions and departmental approval, and we audit completed dissertation submissions to ensure they meet University requirements. We coordinate dissertation publishing and embargoes with ProQuest and with Knowledge@UChicago.
