Dissertation Office

Spring PhD Candidates:

Seventh Week: The deadline for submitting your dissertation is Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 p.m. You should also register for the Survey of Earned Doctorates.

You will need to upload a completed copy of the Departmental Approval Form, signed by your department chair, confirming that the dissertation on the ETD Administrator site is in its final form, meets the University-Wide Requirements for the Ph.D. Dissertation, and has been accepted as satisfying the degree requirements of the department or school. If your degree is from more than one program, you will need more than one completed and signed approval form.

After completing the Submission steps, you should not make any changes unless asked to do so by Dissertation Office staff. Check your email on a daily basis.  We will let you know if we need additional material from you, and we will let you know when your submission is complete and in order.

The Dissertation Office provides information on the University's dissertation policies. We help doctoral students understand dissertation formatting and publication requirements, and we assist with the submission process. We support graduate program administrators as they manage dissertation submissions and departmental approval, and we audit completed dissertation submissions to ensure they meet University requirements. We coordinate dissertation publishing and embargoes with ProQuest and with Knowledge@UChicago.
